Papa says
I love you Mama.
I love you Mama.
It is nice to see some good news in mainstream media. BusinessWeek ran this article about the increased demand for locally-grown food.
The Rise of the 'Locavore'
What good news do you have to share?
I'd love to hear about your homesteading experience and post it here with photos. If you think I'm talking about the Oklahoma land rush or don't know what then I suggest reading Ed & Carolyn Robinson's book "The Have More Plan" Else take a look at Gene Logsdon's "All Flesh is Grass" or Joel Salatin's "You can farm" for a different approach or two.
Lettuce is coming up nicely. Already had some green onions weeks ago (we haven't attained to the Four Season Harvest level - not even close). Miss the chickens, that will be a high priority after the move. What's in your garden or farmyard this month?
Looks like I'll soon have 80 acres on my hands Lord willing. Room for a house and a little barn, a greenhouse and several children and what? Still need to pay for it but I'm open to suggestion on how best to make use of it (hills, ponds, grass, trees, ticks).
Planning to move to a different remote area and I'd like to enable a slightly out of area cellular service. Can these Yagi antenna repeater systems help me?
Masonry Heaters are supposed to be the most natural and efficient means to heat a home. We have friends with a soapstone stove and they claimed it performed impressively. Can someone share their experiences?
For Primary/Elementary homeschool curriculum, Rod & Staff won by keeping more focused on core values of Biblical morality, living simply, working with your hands, meekness, patience. That isn't to say the runner up was much worse, only that we aim to keep only the best examples before us and those entrusted to our care.
If you knew my doings, you might be naively tempted to think I am not really busy at all but it is amazing how just a few activities repeated often and ordinary daily duties just swallow up all of my time and how I am surprised to have almost zero time to write here.
From my Good Wife:
"It is wise to not plan too far ahead."
"One bridge at a time."
<trying to encourage her to open up here>
I'm planning to compare Rod and Staff with Christian Light Education elementary science and social studies over the next few weeks. Please let me know if you have recent experience with these.
But for teaching reading to our 3rd child we discovered Eastern Mennonite Press' materials have been the best with the recent addition of Sing, Spell, Read & Write's Ferris-Wheel game to give practice using blends.
Feel free to drop in from time to time. I'm planning to share about some of our projects and activities with all of you. We'll see where that takes us. Caleb
